What Character Creation Actually Asks

This dossier is verified against the Chinese open-beta client as of 2026-08-26. Screens, rules and option labels may shift in later builds or at international launch; wherever a fact is unconfirmed we mark it UNCONFIRMED instead of guessing.

Three Decisions, In This Order

Before you set foot in Tingen, the client walks you through three decisions:

Appearance

Pick a body shape and a face. The open-beta client ships a preset gallery (classic, elegant, somber and natural styles on both PC and mobile) plus a manual adjuster for hair, eyes and complexion. The share code the client exports from this screen — a single string — is exactly what the preset library below collects.

Name

A character name subject to the client's rules (length, reserved words, sensitive strings). The name is visible to other players in shared spaces; no separate display-name override is confirmed.

Pathway (Sequence 9)

Choose one of the six launch pathways — Fool, Door, Error, Visionary, Hermit, Paragon. The choice fixes your Sequence 9 class and starting abilities, and shapes the next two sequences of play. Everything downstream — potion recipes, advancement milestones, every guide you will read — hooks onto this line.

What Actually Matters (And What Doesn't)

Ranked by how much a wrong choice costs, from our reading of the open-beta client:

Pathway — decisive

The pathway seeds your class, skill tree and the guides you will read. Late switches are expensive or unconfirmed (see below), so treat the choice as final at creation.

Appearance — cosmetic only

Appearance has no confirmed effect on stats, class or storyline in the open beta. A bad preset only costs your own eyeballs.

Name — permanent-looking

The name is the most visible thing a character carries and the least likely to be changeable. Pick one you can live with, not one that is clever.

Can You Change It Later?

What the open-beta client actually supports, as of 2026-08-26. Anything absent from the shipped client is marked UNCONFIRMED — don't bet on it.

Appearance

CHANGEABLE AT COST

Revisitable at a cost: an appearance-revision item exists in the open-beta shop and the price varies by channel. Whether a previously exported share code still resolves after a revision is UNCONFIRMED.

Pathway

LOCKED

No pathway-revision function exists in the open-beta client. Treat your Sequence 9 as permanent unless a future update says otherwise.

Name

UNCONFIRMED

As of 2026-08-26 the open-beta client has no rename function, and no official name-change service has been confirmed.

Honesty note: these three statuses come from one pass through the Chinese open-beta client on 2026-08-26. When server regions differ, the conservative reading is the right one.

Face Preset Library

Share codes reproduced end-to-end on real characters in the current open-beta client. Pasting a code reopens the appearance editor with that preset's face — cosmetics only, no gameplay effect.

STATUS: EMPTY — VERIFICATION OPEN

No verified presets yet

The library only admits presets we have reproduced end-to-end on a real open-beta character — screenshot through paste, verified on the target platform. As of 2026-08-26 no submission has passed that check, so the library stays empty instead of printing share codes we have not tested. Unverified codes float around forums; we do not relay them.

How to submit a preset

Submit a Preset

The library only accepts presets we can verify. To nominate yours, send the export code, a clean screenshot, the platform and a date. We reproduce every code end-to-end; only passing presets are published, with your handle in the attribution line.

Required for verification

  • 01

    Screenshot — finished character, unobstructed

One clean screenshot of the finished character in the appearance editor, front and profile readable. Screenshots are used for verification only and are never republished.

  • 02

Share code — exact client export

Paste the exact string the client exports — never a transcription. Codes that fail to paste on first try are rejected.

  • 03

    Platform — PC / iOS / Android

Cross-platform fidelity is not guaranteed; presets are attributed to the platform they were verified on.

  • 04

    Your handle

Used for the attribution line only. No account required.

  • 05

    Verification date

The date and client version on which you last confirmed the code pastes cleanly. The published entry carries our own verification date — we never stamp a date we did not reproduce.

Verification is manual, runs in batches, and has no ETA. Codes that fail to reproduce are simply not published.

FAQ

Q1.Can I change my character's face after creation?
In the 2026-08-26 open-beta client, appearance is revisitable at a cost through a shop item; the price varies by channel. Whether a previously exported share code still resolves after a revision is UNCONFIRMED.
Q2.Do face-preset share codes work across platforms?
Not guaranteed. Presets are verified and attributed per platform; a code that works on PC may fall back to defaults on a phone — exactly the failure mode the verification check exists for.
Q3.Does appearance affect gameplay?
No. Appearance is purely cosmetic in the open beta — no confirmed effect on stats, class or storyline.
Q4.How do I get my preset into the library?
Meet the submission requirements (export code, clean screenshot, platform, date) and send them in. We reproduce every code end-to-end; passing presets are published with your handle.
